Lhalung Monastery, often called the Sarkhang or Golden Temple, is an ancient Buddhist monastery located in the Spiti Valley of Himachal Pradesh, India. It was established in the late 10th century by Rinchen Zangpo, a well-known Tibetan Buddhist translator and the king of the Guge Kingdom in the western Himalayas. The name “Lhalung” translates to ‘land of the gods,’ and local legend says that the Lhalung Devta, the chief deity of the valley, comes from the nearby Tangmar mountain. This beautiful monastery is set against stunning scenery, with the Tangmar mountains on one side and the Lingti River on the other. It is part of the largest village in the Lingti Valley, which has 45 homes and is situated 14 kilometers from the main road.
